  1. Marble galls are caused by the larvae of gall wasps (Andricus kollari) which lay their eggs on oak buds. The hole is where the wasp emerged.

  5. I agree with everyone else, it is very interesting. I always wondered what kinds of things would cause a gall. Wasps make a lot of sense.
