The Sphinx Stone, Millstone Edge

the sphinx stone, Millstone Edge, Derbyshire

When I spotted this weathered rock at Millstone Edge it reminded me of a reclining lion. It wouldn't surprise me to find out it's called The Sphinx Stone but as far as I know it's just a nameless rock. :-(

  1. It does look remarkably like a crouching creature; or maybe a giant frog or toad :)

  2. It really does look like a lion or a Sphinx. That must have been a fun one to find. I love when that happens.

  4. Too funny...before I read your caption, at a first glance at the picture it looked like a reclining seal. Second look at the picture, and yup, there's the lion!

  6. It reminds me of a cannon, which is distressing as I don't like guns. Least of all a GIANT gun. Okay, it's looking more like a lion to me now. *smiling*

  11. I agree with you. It hardly resembles anything, but a plain rock.

  12. To me it looks like a walrus. That's his head on the right, and he (or she) is lying down.
