Stanton Moor is a wild upland area between Matlock and Bakewell which was an important site in the Bronze Age. Nicholas Thomas's Guide to Prehistoric England lists more than 60 prehistoric features on Stanton Moor including
The Nine Ladies stone circle.
Skeletal trees silhouetted. Lovely :)
ReplyDeleteI love how ancient England is. Not that America wasn't around during the Bronze Age, but nothing was going on here that we know about. I think it's amazing all the layers upon layers of history England has.
ReplyDeleteI think I visited the Nine Ladies some 40 years ago when out walking with the Ramblers - a long long time ago !!
ReplyDeleteVery fascinating! Very dark and primitive feel with a wealth of history
ReplyDeleteAn interesting looking place. I'm even more interested in the history you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteWow! An award; my first. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'll be posting about it, either tomorrow or Saturday :)
Now to decide who to pass it on to! Hmmm...
It does look rather mysterious. Are those spots on the ground the remainder of the "ladies?"
ReplyDeleteLooks like a sad and quite dreary place. Almost ghostly if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteIt looks really still there - like you could sit in the grass and appreciate it without worrying about a constant din in the background. cheers
ReplyDeleteI love the landscapes of Derbyshire. So much history.
