Saint Margaret's Island is a small island in Carmarthen Bay, Wales. Two ruins can be seen on the island and Google maps reveals a square enclosure. Unfortunately the island is inaccessible to the public.
As this was slowly revealing itself in my reader I thought "Wow, huge whale" LOL - is no one allowed on the island or is it just to difficult to get there. And if no one is allowed, do you know why?
I imagine the only people that know anything about it would be UNESCO or some heritage community. Chances are the lack of information is meant to protect the site. I'm intrigued as well though.
According to the information I can find, the ruins include the remains of a medieval monastery and housing for Victorian quarry workers. The island is protected as a nesting site for seabirds.

ReplyDeleteI would love to go and explore, but sometimes, the only way to preserve something is to deny access. Is this the case here?
ReplyDeleteWow, just knowing I can't visit makes me want to visit! Do you think it is closed to the public because of conservation? I'd love to see those ruins.
