The small island of Hobthrush or Saint Cuthbert's Isle lies just off the coast of Lindisfarne. Saint Cuthbert lived here as a hermit before seeking solitude on Inner Farne.
Wonderful capture John. I have to agree with Interesting Pictures. The first thing that came to mind when I saw the cross was the crusades or the Knight's Templar. Amazing how these islands have such a story to tell.

i don't know anything about those real people, but my mother had a cousin named cuthbert
ReplyDeleteIs the large hump a structure? Is the cross a memorial? It seems to be a very small island to be able to sustain St. Cuthbert for very long.
ReplyDeleteA lone cross in the middle on an isolated island. Interesting composition.

ReplyDeleteI would love to live as a hermit on an island like that and just read and watch Charmed reruns. For a week maybe, until I return to my beloved London.
