Hi John- I have a US dragonfly book and I'm trying to start learning some of them, but you can't see some of the necessary details on this picture to be sure (let alone that you are on the other side of the pond). It's not any clubtail, or any damselfly. I think I am seeing one small spot on the outer edge of each wing. Body shape makes me think a skimmer of some sort, but can't really see enough detail. The ones in my book that it looks most like are female Roseate Skimmer, Seaside Dragonlet, female Spangled Skimmer, or Fawn Darner. But I just don't think there is enough info in this photo. Of course, I'm not an expert.

I rarely see them in my neighborhood, unlike when I was just a carefree youngster. Back then, I was good at catching them, but I let them go eventually, because I want other kids to witness their beauty.
