I really need to buy a book so I can identify caterpillars! They're one of the few things not covered by "Complete British Wildlife".

My old Samsung camera has stopped working. :-( I took this pic with a borrowed Nikon and I'm not impressed by the quality of macro shots. Can anyone recommend a cheap digital compact that takes decent macro pics?

I identify all of my animals on the internet. It's sometimes an ordeal but I usually get it done. That's a pretty unusual looking caterpillar. I like all the little bumps. I don't really have any experience with cameras other than my Canon Powershot A590. The ratings on it are pretty good. It seems to work well enough, and there are add-ons to get better macro shots. i've been looking at them lately myself.

I can see why you aren't happy with the macro on the Nikon. Still, love the shot and that caterpillar has some pretty colors and cool little bumps.

I wish I could John but I too have been searching and searching. I can't even afford to buy a macro lens right now.

My dream is the new Sony A-900. but, that is way down the road.

By the way I think your macros are wonderful!!

Pesticides survive by eating leaves of plants. Photography can make a lot of sense.
