Can you figure out what's in these photos I took in the garden this morning?

Hi John,

I'm gonna guess ice crystals, maybe on a leaf. It's a great pic and looks a little like a painting...very interesting.

May you have a very happy 2010, John, and thank you for your support at ETH. I really enjoy your blog!

Looks like the picture has been taken in the shower ;) up high looking down on the green floor ;)

Lichen on a mossy rock? falling water? icicles? In any event, it looks really neat :)

I think that it is ice beads on the ends of something hanging down that you are looking up at.

I have to go with Holly's answer. It's pretty cool.

The crystals in the top picture look so rectangular, I'd be inclined to think they were salt, but the lower picture looks very like water weed or algae of some sort.

I think it's ice crystals or something very similar.

Thanks for all the great guesses. Some are very close, but so far no-one has mentioned the specific word I'm looking for :-)

It looks like a lake below so I'm guessing it is snow falling but my mind says it can't be.

That's very interesting! The first shot made me think of pansies, but the second shot I believe could be the same image just not so close up and it appears to be ice, at least to me!

Thanks so much for the shout out, John. Actually, your comment that you hadn't heard the exact word you were looking for was a good hint. And it is a great shot!

I got the idea that it is on astro-turf and that space is a hole in the base
