The River Witham Frozen Over

The tidal River Witham frozen over in Boston, Lincolnshire

Here's something I don't see very often. The tidal River Witham froze over a couple of nights ago. As the tide went out, the river left sheets of broken ice on the banks, freezing over again at low tide.

Taken by my camera phone from the footbridge near Boston Stump.

Wow! I'd love to see a shot in about six months so that we can compare!

I love the patterns in the ice. Just let my eyes go blurry and look at the swirls and the crackles.

I think it's the patterns on the ice that I like too. The pattern of the ice on the river bank is every bit as interesting on closer examination.

Yes, I agree with everyone that those patterns give it a unique look. It's a great shot with the blue and white contrasts that blend perfectly. Love it.

Nice photo you really have a knack for catching the beauty in nature.

That's a awesome shot. It looks almost cartoonish or not real or something. Freaky!

Great shot! Really interesting pattern on the ice. The snow is melting rapidly round our way, apparently we should prepare for flooding next. Hey ho.
