The Sphinx Stone, Millstone Edge

the sphinx stone, Millstone Edge, Derbyshire

When I spotted this weathered rock at Millstone Edge it reminded me of a reclining lion. It wouldn't surprise me to find out it's called The Sphinx Stone but as far as I know it's just a nameless rock. :-(

It does look remarkably like a crouching creature; or maybe a giant frog or toad :)

It really does look like a lion or a Sphinx. That must have been a fun one to find. I love when that happens.

You named it! No longer a nameless rock! Cool!

Too funny...before I read your caption, at a first glance at the picture it looked like a reclining seal. Second look at the picture, and yup, there's the lion!

Yep, that one was named right. (LOL?)

It reminds me of a cannon, which is distressing as I don't like guns. Least of all a GIANT gun. Okay, it's looking more like a lion to me now. *smiling*

Very interesting! I also thought of a seal at first.

every single thing has its own beauty, and so has this stone

At first I thought it was a frog. lol Amazing how things like this can exist in your own backyard.

I agree with you. It hardly resembles anything, but a plain rock.

To me it looks like a walrus. That's his head on the right, and he (or she) is lying down.

I must have a really dirty mind. I won't tell you what it looks like to me...

I'm loving your series on Derbyshire. It really is a beautiful area. I agree - this one certainly looks like a sphinx, right down to his haunches.
